Last night at the RiNo Beach Club, guests gathered in their best tiki style to experience Denver’s more tropical side at Tiki Tiki Tiki. As part of Denver Food and Wine’s 10 year anniversary, we worked with the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation to put on a new kind of cocktail and culinary competition for the special occasion. Everyone got into tiki character and came out to support their favorite chefs, bartenders and the awesome high school hospitality program, Colorado ProStart.
For the cocktail competition, 10 bartenders representing the Colorado Bartenders Guild came out to create some of the best Tiki Cocktails Denver has ever seen. Two awards were given out, one being the Judges Choice and the other being the People’s Choice. Lois Heyse of Trillium took the prize for People’s Choice Cocktail and Haylee Ortiz of Session Kitchen won over the judges.
The Culinary competition was between 5 Denver Chefs as well as Colorado Prostart’s all-star students. All competitors came out and created tiki themed patio bites for the guests to enjoy, cooking to win over the crowd for their vote for best chef. Colorado ProStart took the competition by a landslide!
There was food, there were drinks, there was music, games and even a little tropical rain! Thank you to all those who participated and to all of those who came and enjoyed. It was a tropical night for the Denver Food and Wine books!
